in August 2008. This is creating growth and expansion of positions
across our fleet groups, and as one of our Engineer Superintendents,
you’ll be required to:
- Apply cost preventive maintenance techniques to the fleet on
a planned basis while retaining the flexibility to make spot decisions
on emergency repairs as the need arises.
- Visit each of the allocated vessels through the year to monitor,
advise, instruct, motivate and report on the performance of ships
and senior staff in order to achieve the most efficient control
of personnel and machinery to safeguard the vessel, crew, cargo,
environment and STASCO's reputation. One visit will, if possible,
include a short voyage in order to assess the vessel's performance
prior to refit. You’ll then report on each visit, highlighting
any action points and the agreed action party.
- Investigate and evaluate alternative systems, equipment, contractors
and methods for beneficial use in place of obsolete, unreliable
or less efficient subjects on allocated ships.
- Assist the Fleet Manager with the preparation of annual operating
budgets, and monitor and guide expenditure within these budgets.
- Maintain a current file of outstanding maintenance requirements
as a basis for refit specifications and budget estimates. Item
specifications will be of sufficient detail to ensure an accurate
estimate of costs can be made by a contractor.
- Co-ordinate and produce all out of service repair and refit
specifications, liaise with the procurement department to ensure
necessary equipment is ordered, arrange specialist contractors,
and review and finalise the yard tender analysis document. Supervise
contractors, ship's and other staff and surveyors to ensure the
refit is conducted to a satisfactory standard, the tendered cost
and on time. On completion of the refit, produce a review of yard
performance on time, cost and quality against that tendered. Agree
the yard work list and invoice, subject to final approval by the
Fleet Manager. If appropriate, negotiate a discount. Prepare a
detailed report of the work carried out and recommend the work
to be undertaken at future refits.
- Monitor the vessel operating parameters to identify inefficient
machinery, hull condition, bunker and lubricant consumption, and
take prompt action to limit any further deterioration.
- Be familiar with the international, national and classification
society rules and regulations that directly affect your allocated
ships.
- Ensure the Fleet Manager is fully updated with regard to the
technical and operational status of your allocated vessels.
- Take the role of duty superintendent in rotation.
- Promote the Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies
within our group and to third parties involved with our vessels.
- Be thoroughly familiar with the ISM code and our safety management
system.

Requirements: |
With a Class 1 (Engineer) Certificate of Competency,
we’d also prefer you to have Motor and Steam certification.
A self starter, you’ll be an excellent team leader with the
ability to undertake individual assignments.
Our vessels are equipped with a wide variety of machinery and operating
systems, and are manned by officers and crews from an international
pool of personnel brought together under a continually evolving
common management system. With this in mind, you’ll have a
sound knowledge of the systems on the vessels in your care in order
to monitor operational parameters and identify and correct substandard
performance.
You must be able to initiate economic and efficient repairs or
replacements at short notice with due regard for the variable ability
and motivation of the ship’s personnel and location whether
at sea, in port, in fair weather or foul. In fulfilling this challenge,
you must be available to travel worldwide – subject to the
usual visa requirements – to a distressed ship at any time.
