Candidate will have 15+ years of experience in oilfield drilling
and well operations, including leadership experience. Candidate
must be willing to relocate and reside in North Africa. Experience
working in multicultural environments is preferred.
Good people and leadership skills, including communication and
influencing, are required. The ideal candidate will be a self starter
that can anticipate problems and adjust accordingly to meet the
demands of an active drilling/work-over program. He must be able
to communicate effectively and respectfully at all levels in order
to work in a cooperative and constructive spirit with a variety
of disciplines, personalities, and cultures.
The selected candidate will work in our joint venture partnership
and will represent our interests for all drilling, completion, and
workover matters in this growing company. The Deputy Drilling General
Manager will work cooperatively with the national Drilling General
Manager to deliver and further optimize all areas of drilling and
workover performance and drilling-related project management.
Responsibilities will include all areas relating to well planning,
well operations, commercial and contractual workscopes, materials
planning and readiness, personnel issues including skills development,
HSE performance, goal setting, and performance review/benchmarking
aimed at improvement.
Dimension:
Responsibility for the management and performance of drilling and
workover operations in the joint venture drilling department, with
an annual estimated drilling expenditure of ca. $175MM. Currently
deliver 80 new wells per year utilizing 5 drilling and 5 workover
rigs with plans to grow.
Personnel:
A large team of office- and field-based national drilling and workover
staff along with 1 expatriate Senior Drilling Engineering Expert
and 4 expatriate Field Drilling Superintendents. Drilling Engineering
staff will directly report to the Drilling Manager. The Deputy Drilling
General Manager reports to the JV Operations General Managers.
Responsibilities:
The Deputy Drilling General Manager will be expected to succeed
within the operating environment of a JV company working in parallel
with an in-country Drilling General Manager. Within this environment
the responsibilities for the Deputy Drilling General Manager will
include:
- Accountability for drilling team performance as measured by
number of wells drilled, AFE vs actual costs, HSE performance,
drilling performance vs. competitors, and continuous improvement.
- Set goals and performance targets for drilling team. Monitor
the efficiency and effectiveness of the operation and initiate
improvement programs where required.
- Accountable for the daily management and prioritization of
an active drilling operations group - supervise engineering, operational,
administrative, commercial and contractual planning and activities.
- Accountability for the manpower planning, skills assessment,
and training for the drilling team in the
- Develop and mature the skills of subordinates within the drilling
group.
- Accountable for long-term drilling materials planning and procurement
activities.
- Performance evaluation and effectiveness. Prepare recommendations
for senior management regarding improvements and cost savings
within the scope of the operation.
- Implement and enforce JV company policies and procedures to
ensure the operation is conducted in a safe and efficient manner
in compliance with company and contractual requirements.
- Propose and implement new technologies and/or procedures as
required for performance improvement.

Requirements: |
The ideal candidate should have experience and knowledge
of the following:
- A good knowledge of land drilling rig equipment and operations
for development, exploration and appraisal drilling and completion
activities along with workover activities including ESP and rod
pump installations.
- Experience managing busy, multi-rig operations with aggressive
development targets is highly desirable.
- A successful track record of troubleshooting equipment and operational
challenges.
- A thorough understanding of well planning including a good understanding
of geological subject matter, reservoir engineering, completions
design and offset well and log information, identification of
drilling hazards and environmental requirements.
- Casing designs, cementing, bits, mud systems, directional drilling,
DST’s, coring, etc.
- Safety and environmental knowledge
- Data collection and management of drilling operations
- A track record of mentoring and guiding local national employees
would be advantageous.
Qualifications
A degree in a relevant engineering discipline
Candidate should hold current Well Control Certificate (onshore
drilling and cased-hole operations)
